NID server restarted
The National Identity Card (NID) server of the Election Commission (EC) has reopened after almost 40 hours. In a press conference organized at the Election Commission in Agargaon on Wednesday afternoon, Director General of National Identity Registration Division AKM Humayun Kabir said that the server was closed due to cyberthreats.
He said, 'The Election Commission always tries to keep it running. We closed it on August 14 around 12 pm. Because we received some messages from maintenance, some threats may come. Launched this afternoon.'

In response to a question, the project management said, 'We have a security operation center, which works all the time. We have seen some minor threats. They can come at any time. The threats I have seen are worth negotiating. Today we evaluated all the threats. Negotiated. Now we can see, the server is safe to start. Launched before 2 pm.'
People have suffered while coming to NID services since morning. When asked why the issue was not reported earlier, Humayun Kabir said, 'We have informed 171 institutions that they will be deprived of services until further notice. If I publicly say it's closing, there may be a panic. To minimize panic, we tried to get it up and running this morning.'
'The suffering they (service recipients) have suffered is literally not much. If there was a major maintenance or a loop hole. We are in a better position than that,' he added.
Project Director Brigadier General Abul Hasnat Mohammad Sayem said in a press conference that the Security Operations Center has seen some threats, some minor and some major. They can come at any time. They were solvable and after solving the server felt safe to start. Because of which it has been reintroduced. Now we can absolutely say that it is secure”.
